But if you're into subways, this simulator gives you a lot to work with. Hence why most of its routes are underground and tunnel-based.

This sim has great physics and sounds, plus a lot of good community-generated content, but the graphics are pretty basic and leave a lot to be desired.

I cannot wait to follow its progress as the game continues to evolve and more features and content are continually added.īoso View Express: This is a free train simulator that has been mostly adopted by the subway/underground fan community. But as far as graphics and operational "fun" go, even at this very very early stage of its development, it's so much more immersive and "real" feeling than any other simulator I've played. As you are familiar with it, you don't need my explanation of how it works. I've become enamored with this game and have the highest hopes for its success. I am confident that once the community gets its hands on a route and/or train editor, we'll see an explosion of new, quality content.ĭerail Valley is also also a new development. TSW as of this writing still lacks an editor. The upside, though, is that there is some noticeable level of improvement with each DLC released, so I'm cautiously optimistic that some of the franchise's bugs will be ironed out in time. Unfortunately, the dev team seems uninterested in patching some of the glaring bugs that inevitably come with each DLC release. This franchise is still very young with only a half dozen or so addons available, each of them with their own quirks.

As you noted, the graphics are great in this game, but the physics can be a bit off. Train Sim World is the direct successor to the Train Simulator 20xx franchise, developed by the same team. but sometimes it can be buggy as hell, and I've never been much impressed by the Trainz series' graphics. My impression is that there's also a huge amount of user-made content for it. There is the Trainz simulator franchise, what I've delved into a little bit. But for overall variety, this is probably where you'd find the most enjoyment. The downside of the TS19 franchise is that its graphics and physics engines are starting to show their age. You'll have to spend some time though finding a lot of it, as the community has endeavored to create a lot more content than what the official Dovetail team is capable of generating. These run the gamut from sloppy and slapdash to bona-fide recreations of trains, routes, and movement. There are tons and tons of official and unofficial payware and freeware content for the game. Welcome to train simming! The TS19 franchise will probably give you the most breadth and flexibility, especially in terms of balancing physics and good graphics. Thanks in advance for the help, I'll be sure to poke around more as I fall deeper into this rabbit hole! Anyways, any suggestions or insight based on what I'm into? I've got a ton of flight sim peripherals just waiting to be used on a train sim but I've been so disappointed reading that people have been asking for that in TSW for more than a year and there still isn't analog support in TSW in 2019.

There was a TS19 DLC I saw that had a few stops in my hometown San Jose to San Francisco, that had me a bit interested. The train itself doesn't matter to much to me right now, but mostly I've been asked if I prefer specific routes or trains. Personally I really enjoy the LIRR DLC and Rapid Transit. Granted, the overall look/feel of the game is absolutely gorgeous. However, the lack of analog control inputs and the very simplistic systems/physics simulation kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.

That's why I decided to try it out there first. I really love the fact that you can walk around the cab, cars and stations. I'm looking for some advice as to what to jump onto first since it seems that TSW is a very casual experience.

I own every module for DCS and I'm worried that train sims might be the new rabbit hole for me. I'm a long time flight simmer and I spend most of my time in DCS World. So my first experience in train sim recently was TSW and Derail Valley in VR.
